Denton-Katy Rail Trail

The Denton-Katy Rail Trail is a local favorite, connecting Denton to Lewisville along I-35. This 21-mile-long, well-paved trail is perfect for biking, jogging, walking, and rollerblading. And at 8 feet wide, there’s plenty of room for everyone! It’s just about a 30-minute drive from Northlake, making it a great choice for a quick escape into nature. Just a heads up, it’s unknown if e-bikes or e-scooters are allowed, so if that’s your preferred way to enjoy a trail, maybe try some of the others before this one.

Denton County Nature Trail – Southwest Park

A bit closer to home, just a 10-minute drive from central Northlake, we have a newly opened Denton County nature trail in Southwest Park. This 3.6-mile temporary nature trail is a soft-surface grass trail that loops around the perimeter of the future site of Southwest Park and features an east-west cut-through trail if you prefer to complete shorter loops​​. If you’re planning a visit, don’t forget to bring some water, and keep your eyes peeled for the local wildlife! And remember, the trail is open from 6 AM to 10 PM​. City of Northlake Trail Plan

Northlake itself is also getting in on the action! Their park system has a new trail plan in the works, with paths planned throughout the city.  The City of Northlake’s trail plan will provide better detail on trail locations and regional connectivity, improving the accessibility and enjoyment of the town’s beautiful parks for all​ residents.

Roanoke Hiking Trail

Looking for more? Northlake’s neighboring city of Roanoke is constructing a new 1.6-mile hiking trail, which will start in the Newcastle Street cul-de-sac in the Briarywyck subdivision and follow the Trinity River Authority easement south and under Hwy 114, ending near Hawaiian Falls​.

Grapevine Lake Trails

If you’re up for a longer drive, there are fantastic trails around Grapevine Lake, such as the Knob Hill Trail and the Cross Timbers Equestrian Trail. The Knob Hill Trail is a popular option for moderately experienced hikers, birders, and naturists, tracing along Denton Creek for a total of 11.6 miles. Meanwhile, the Cross Timbers Equestrian Trail is a favorite for hikers and horseback riders, running 6.5 miles total along a separate section of Denton Creek. While both trails are open year-round, remember to double-check for flooding or muddy conditions before you go!

Eagle Mountain Park Trail
